Art passes away, even if it is immortal. To give it life, the painter Jan Niksiński (57) from Warsaw has breathed new life into it. He entitled his exhibition. “Recycling 2”. Born in the district town of Przasnysz in the Mazovian Voivodship, 100 kilometres north of Warsaw, the artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk from 1973 and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1975.
ZWINGENBERG: Jan Niksinski assembles his paintings from used ideas, stored thoughts and memories. They show abstract symbolism, which in combination with graphic adaptation creates a visual whole. In this way, the artist opens his mental self to public access, without depriving the viewer of the possibility to get personal views. A very nice selection of his latest works can be seen at Remise until 27 December. The exhibition opened on Sunday in the presence of numerous guests.
The protagonist of a recent vernissage at the Przasnysz Museum was Jan Niksinski, a Przasnysz resident who has made a career in Switzerland, Austria, France and Africa, among other places. The exhibition, which opened on the last Saturday of September, is entitled ‘Gaps, cracks and curtains’.

For many years, I successfully objected to giving speeches on my exhibitions because I believed that pictures can’t be explained, that they can only be experienced. They should speak for themselves, and words, in my opinion, spoil everything. It would have never crossed my mind that one day I would be working on a speech, that I would desire to explain another painter’s pictures to the viewer, that I would dare to take this challenge.

Born on 28 May 1952 in Przasnysz, Poland. He studied art education and pedagogy at the University of Gdansk from 1972-73. He then continued his studies from 1973-78 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graduating with honours. In 1980 Niksinski received a nine-month art scholarship from the Austrian Federal Minister of Science and Research and in 1987 a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture.
