CHINKS AND FISSURES IN THE MUSEUM (2006)

A review of my exhibition at the Historical Museum in Przasnysz. Tygodnik Ostrołęcki (Przasnysz edition) 17.10. 2006

The protagonist of a recent vernissage at the Przasnysz Museum was Jan Niksinski, a Przasnysz resident who has made a career in Switzerland, Austria, France and Africa, among other places. The exhibition, which opened on the last Saturday of September, is entitled ‘Gaps, cracks and curtains’.

– Regardless of the subject and the time when my paintings were created, one can always notice a crack in them, through which a piece of another painting can be seen, or a break in the form, structure, which, like a wound, destroys the state of equilibrium and introduces anxiety,’ this is how Jan Niksiński told the visitors about his work. The artist revealed that these cracks and crevices appeared spontaneously. They were not his intention. – It was only relatively recently that I realised that they could be typical visual markers of my style,” he said.

Many of Niksinski’s colleagues from his school years came to the opening. Local authorities and lovers of good art also showed up. Everyone admired the paintings in unison. Some wanted to buy the paintings presented at the exhibition, others were curious about the secrets of their creation. The artist was besieged by visitors. Conversations lasted for a long time and no one wanted to leave the museum.
